Which occupations have the highest risk of skin cancer?
Any role which involves being outside for more than an hour a day means that you are routinely exposed to the sun and are at a higher risk of sun burn, skin ageing and skin cancer. Over 90% of skin cancers are caused by sun exposure.
Below we have listed a number of jobs which are likely to expose you to a higher risk of sun exposure and therefore skin cancer.
Construction - whether you are designing or constructing a road, railway, port or bridge you are likely to be spending a lot of time outside on a construction site which means you are routinely exposed to the sun.
Facilities management - any role that means you are installing or maintaining a physical asset in the field is likely to be exposed to the sun for many hours during each day.
Horticulture - how you are going to make sure your skin stays as fresh as a daisy?
Agriculture - whether you are picking fruits or herding cattle you are going to be exposed to a lot of UV radiation.
Sport - if you are a professional athlete or in the sports industry, many roles will involve being outdoors for lengthy stretches of time.
Aviation - pilots, aviation crew and airport ground staff are known to be particularly at risk of skin cancer.
Broadcast media - if your role involves outdoor broadcast you are going to lose your Hollywood looks pretty fast.
Resources sector - if you are based in the North Sea you may have slightly less to worry about, but if you are based in another resource sector hubs like Western Australia, Queensland, the Middle East and Africa you are at risk
Tourism - a dream job for many, but you may be putting your health at risk if you are not adequately protected from the sun.

Transportation - If you are driving or riding around you are getting more than your fair share of sun exposure.
